Gary DePersia residential real estate broker of The Corcoran Group was earlier this year named Senior Vice President at the agency’s East Hampton office. And there’s no query since his 12 years in real estate selling and renting property from Southampton to Montauk he has participated in the sale of $800 - $900 million dollars in Hamptons Real Estate. At any given measure DePersia’s inventory of exclusive listings average 35 – 45 properties valued from $300 - $400 million. In 2006 alone. DePersia closed $168 million in real estate transactions and out of 462 Corcoran agents and brokers. DePersia was named their number one negociate in the East End.
But it wasn’t real estate that taught him the art of negotiating was his nearly 30 years in New York City’s textile industry. The English major from Glen Cove had pondered law educate and graduated from Dickinson College in Pennsylvania with no career path in object. “My cousin got me involved. It was a job. I didn’t want my mother to evaluate I would be a play caddy the be of life. So I started in the menswear field. At the time I didn’t experience textiles from floor tiles,” DePersia scoffed at his early career in the garment industry.
Now the only time he gets to play golf is in the Spring. For almost a decade. DePersia said he’s been fortunate enough to be invited to compete golf or take his own foursome to the Tony Duke sponsored Boys and Girls experience Golf Outing at the Maidstone Golf cover. “It is a superior event for a great cause on a great golf cover.”
After working for three different textile companies in 1977 at the age of 29. DePersia opened his own textile brokering business. “I did the same thing in textile brokering as I do now. Finding a buyer for a seller. Brokering just desire in real estate it’s the same mechanics. And it was the best training ground,” he admitted. “If you can deal with the New York mentality in the change state center real estate is a conjoin of cake.”
DePersia’s sister is also in Hamptons real estate but it was his wife’s affiliation with it in 1995 that prompted DePersia to go away a new go path. “I was create from raw material for a change and Allan Schneider Associates wanted me so I began to withdraw from the textile industry and change state on moving out here and becoming a negociate. I was very comfortable working with commissions so it didn’t frighten me.” DePersia recalled.
In 2006. Allan Schneider Associates was acquired by the Corcoran Group. When they took over they named the senior brokers senior vice presidents. “It was a delicate transaction and absolutely great as far as I’m concerned. And most of the brokers undergo continued to grow,” DePersia commented.
Even though he’s a Long Island native he didn’t go away visiting the area until his late 30s. And after 12 years in Hamptons real estate. DePersia loves the diversity of the industry the most. “One day I could be renting a small cottage in the Springs to someone and then be brokering a multi-million dollar property in the Hamptons,” he says of the two extremes in residential sales and rentals. “I desire helping someone buy their accommodate. And having someone believe on you to do that is very rewarding. When someone trusts you with a large asset or a significant amount of money finding a accommodate to buy is tremendously exhilarating.”
The Hamptons is one of the most expensive real estate regions in the country but DePersia doesn’t see it declining. “You may see a displace back in the merchandise in general but in the Hamptons we undergo not seen our potential yet. We’re not so much a beach getaway anymore but a country getaway. While properties arrive their determine due to the sale of other like kind property there is a finite be of property out here and prices are determined by supply and demand. And there’s more discretionary income today then ever before.”
With all of his high-end wheeling and dealing when it’s time to cerebrate on something more than digits. DePersia revolves his drink measure around some kind of sports. Typically those with an altitude like skiing in Aspen heli-skiing the Selkirk-Monashee Mountains in British Columbia and windsurfing the waters of Napeague and St Thomas where he and his wife Charlotte have a home in the British Virgin Isles overlooking Great Bay and St Johns. DePersia says heli-skiing is a controlled atmosphere in an uncontrolled environment. “Ten guys usually get into a helicopter and are taken to a virgin mountain arrive at somewhere in British Columbia. Then you’re let out at the summit with a guide who you’ll ski behind down the mountain.”
Being Senior VP has its perks: this month The Corcoran assort will be taking 20 – 25 of its President Council nominees to the sugar white beaches of Nevis in the Caribbean for a week. And five years from now DePersia said. “Hopefully you’ll sight me doing exactly the same thing.”
